Claesson Koivisto Rune Architects has repurposed and refurbished Freschohallen in Bergen, Norway.
This project is a contemporary repurposing and refurbishment of the exterior and interior of Børsbyggningen – a listed heritage building from 1862 containing 'The Hall of Frescoes' – resulting in a restaurant and bar.
The bar, with a mezzanine floor above, forms the new centrepiece, adding an elevated VIP platform, bringing guests closer to the frescoes.
Acting as railings, the external mirror cladding also reflects the frescoes down toward the restaurant floor.
All furniture and floor coverings, including the '822' bent-wood chair by Ton, were designed by the architects. In addition, all colours, including the large dots featured on the carpet, are referenced from the frescoes.
This project has been longlisted in the restaurant and bar interior category of Dezeen Awards 2023.
