VenhoevenCS Architecture + Urbanism has designed IJboulevard in Amsterdam, Netherlands.
With IJboulevard, the design team of VenhoevenCS created a new underwater, semi-floating bike parking facility in the heart of Amsterdam.
The bike parking makes people's journeys as simple and hassle-free as possible. Furthermore, the innovative project makes a significant contribution to the city, transforming the area to facilitate 4,000 cyclists while providing new public space and improving the city's infrastructure.
By bringing bicycles underwater, free space opens up at the street level providing a new panoramic pedestrian boulevard on the River IJ.
Additionally, the unique underwater design provides a habitat for aquatic life to feed and shelter.
This project has been longlisted in the infrastructure and transport project category of Dezeen Awards 2023.
