Anastasiou Misseri has designed the Melanos Watchtower in Melanos, Cyprus.
The Melanos Watchtower is situated on a rocky elevation within the Akamas National Forest Park and has been designed as a prototype for wildfire watchtowers.
"It is a refined evolution of conventional typologies and will serve as the model for future watchtowers within the Department of Forests’ jurisdiction on the island," said Anastasiou Misseri.
The base is composed of three volumes constructed out of raw stone and concrete, and the upper level is constructed out of timber and protected by a zinc-clad roof – offering panoramic views over Akamas.
The design harmonises with the surrounding landscape while complementing its astounding natural setting.
This project has been longlisted in the small project category of Dezeen Awards 2023.
