Peris+Toral Arquitectes has developed Raw Rooms in Ibiza, Spain.
This 43-unit social housing project adapts to the climate and addresses energy poverty, ensuring comfort without active heating/cooling systems.
"Using compacted earth block wall structures, it minimises embodied footprint and regulates humidity," said Peris+Toral Arquitectes.
With 12 square metre rooms interconnected and a central kitchen-dining area, the design promotes gender equity – while the homes connect to the outdoors via thermal buffering modules or winter gardens.
In addition, courtyards create communal spaces, extending into green roofs via architectural features acting as winter atriums and summer solar chimneys.
This project has been longlisted in the housing project category of Dezeen Awards 2023.
