Enrico Sassi Architetto has designed and renovated a vernacular building in Aldesago, Switzerland.
This project involved the conversion of a very small vernacular building into a two-storey house.
Once used as a wood store and rabbit hutch – a hamlet in the municipality of Lugano – the renovation produced a contemporary take on an old stone masonry building in the historic centre of Aldesago.
"The conviction of Enrico Sassi is that true ecology is given by the reuse of spaces and materials, and that respect for the specific features of the place increases the idea of belonging and therefore, the wellbeing of the people who live there," said Enrico Sassi Architetto.
This project has been longlisted in the house renovation category of Dezeen Awards 2023.
