Lake|Flato Architects built River Bend Residence in Texas, USA.

Overlooking the Guadalupe River, River Bend is designed to sit lightly upon the land.

Efficiency and minimal environmental impact were priorities, leading to a design with multiple structures spread to preserve the existing trees.

One structure houses the kitchen, dining, and living areas, while a second houses the primary suite.

A third structure doubles as an art studio and guest house, and the fourth serves as a carport which could also be adapted into future additional living space.

The surrounding landscape is minimal and indigenous to minimise the impact on the forested hillside and reduce the need for maintenance.

This project has been longlisted in the rural house category of Dezeen Awards 2023.
