CollectiveProject has designed a rural school for cement factory workers' children in Andhra Pradesh, India.
Located in rural Andhra Pradesh, a hot and dry region in Southern India, this project re-envisions a 15-year-old school building into a vibrant learning environment for the children of cement factory workers.
Responsible design as a core value is captured using locally sourced waste, renewable materials and upskilled labour.
Strategic planning and a 20,000-square-foot bamboo canopy connecting the existing structure with secondary pavilions form a shaded multipurpose zone open to the community during off hours.
The school, with 600 children currently enrolled, is a prototype by the Penna Foundation that will change the quality of education at factories across the region.
This project has been longlisted in the education project category of Dezeen Awards 2023.
