OlssønBarbieri has designed the brand identity and packaging for Stereoscope's new coffee roaster.
Los Angeles-based speciality coffee roastery Stereoscope uses its platform to create unique experiences and fair relationships over low prices and standardisation in flavour.
"We were asked to develop a new identity and packaging system for Stereoscope, that would echo the brand's sensitivity towards their local community, the farmers, and their belief that speciality coffee is a living organism," said OlssønBarbieri.
The packaging is made from FSC-certified paper, cardboard and biotre materials produced in Sweden and the USA.
"We began with not only recognising the etymology of Stereoscope and their practice but, crucially, the brutal realities coffee faces – from the declaration of Coffee Arabica as an endangered plant to the acknowledgement of coffee’s legacy in colonialism," added OlssønBarbieri. "Whether it’s climate change or the colonial and capitalist structures, there’s a global architecture set to commodify nature whilst ever widening the gap between us and the wild world."
This project has been longlisted in the graphic design category of Dezeen Awards 2023.
