A Threshold has designed the Subterranean Ruins in Bangalore, India.
"Expanding upon the brief, our primary focus was to accentuate the versatility of the project in terms of usage of space, particularly as a vibrant community space," said A Threshold.
The structure is designed to blend within its natural landscape, seamlessly integrating without disrupting its original setting.
It takes the form of a non-building, where walls, roofs and floors serve multiple functions beyond their apparent roles.
The use of local materials and construction techniques reflects the project's underlying environmental commitment.
"By engaging local masons and artisans in the building process, we foster[ed] a sense of ownership within the community while reducing the overall carbon footprint," added A Threshold.
This project has been longlisted in the sustainable building category of Dezeen Awards 2023.
