SATEREO has designed a robot to automate marking work on construction sites.
Marking work typically requires a team of two skilled craftsmen. However, Sumidas performs automatic and accurate area marking based on pre-input data, with a margin of error of 3mm or less.
The self-propelled robot can also operate at night, allowing for construction work to commence the next morning. LEDs surround the unit, providing visibility of work progress from a distance.
As Japan faces an ageing workforce, a shortage of successors is becoming a significant issue. Made from welded sheet metal, the robot maintains a small but robust presence.
This project has been longlisted in the product design (consumer design and wearables) category of Dezeen Awards 2023.
