Architecture firm Inrestudio has designed The Kaleidoscope, an office and residential building in Vietnam's Quang Binh province.
Situated between a hill and the sea, the building faces harsh weather conditions, including hot winds during the dry season and typhoons and floods during the monsoon.
To create a pleasant environment for staff in extreme weather, Inrestudio incorporated a large conical roof resembling a Vietnamese hat. The double-layered roof insulates from the sun and shades the facades, allowing windows to stay open during downpours.
The building's triangular rooms open outward, providing views in multiple directions. Careful lighting ensures a residential feel while preserving the natural surroundings.
This project has been longlisted in the workplace project category of Dezeen Awards 2023.
