Ariane Thakore Ginwala and This and That have collaborated to create Tipai in India.

"We were not building a resort, we were sustaining a community," said Ariane Thankore Ginwala. "Usually you start with a plot of land [but] we began with a deeply held philosophy."

Core to the design was localisation – whether it was the techniques used, the material built with or the people who built it, they were all local.

Tipai is set in a 34-acre expanse on the fringes of the Tipeshwar Sanctuary, designed in tune with the natural landscape.

This project has been longlisted in the sustainable building category of Dezeen Awards 2023.
