Studio Haan has completely renovated the Unpretentious Top-Up House in Ghent, Belgium.
"The existing and decrepit corner house in a lively neighbourhood of Ghent was completely stripped and instead of the old, sloping roof, a full-fledged third floor in cross laminated timber (CLT) was built to house the children's areas," said Studio Haan.
This house is for a family of five with a living area of 132 square metres that spans three floors – resulting in a vertical way of living.
This ensures that every floor can fully enjoy beautiful views and sufficient daylight, but it also offers the family an opportunity to enjoy each other's company – or retreat to their own private spot.
This project has been longlisted in the house extension category of Dezeen Awards 2023.
