Britsom Philips Architects has redeveloped and extended Villa VD in Waasmunster, Belgium.
This project was the reconversion and extension of a modest house with a gable roof, located on a perfectly oriented plot on a clearing in the woods in Waasmunster.
"The main concept for the reconversion was to extend the gable roof on both sides of the existing volume," said Britsom Philips.
At right angles to the longitudinal volume, an identical transverse volume with a gable roof was also built.
By opening the house to the four sides, a cross-shaped floor plan was created with new zoning on the plot – while providing new internal relationships in the house.
This project has been longlisted in the sustainable renovation category of Dezeen Awards 2023.
