SJB has designed 19 Waterloo Street in Surry Hills, Australia.

19 Waterloo Street is a bespoke house project designed by SJB for private clients in Australia. The project focuses on sustainability, making use of reusable materials and finding a better purpose for existing space.

The house is double-glazed and so does not have air conditioning, rather the design uses passive design principles of facade depth and orientation to ensure summer sun protection and winter sun penetration.

The principal building materials were reclaimed or recycled. The timber floors to the heritage terrace were reclaimed from a demolition project in Rose Bay and the bricks to the main house were reused after being rejected from Phoenix Central in Chatswood.

This project has been shortlisted in the urban house category of Dezeen Awards 2023.
