Nord Architects has developed the Alzheimer's Village in Dax, France.
The Alzheimer’s Village is a home for people living with dementia, a research facility and an open community space.
It's a unique renewal of the care home typology and the very first of its kind in France, designed to create a sense of well-being for residents, relatives and healthcare professionals working there.
"There is currently no medical cure for dementia, but research indicates that elements in the physical environment can have a positive effect on symptoms," said Nord Architects.
The design was inspired by the local architectural style and tradition and is adapted to the site.
This project has been shortlisted in the health and wellbeing project category of Dezeen Awards 2023.
