Bananatex® has designed its own Bananatex® Jersey, made from a compostable fabric derived from Abacá banana plants.
Bananatex® is a plastic-free, circular and compostable solution with the lowest possible environmental footprint made purely from naturally grown Abacá banana plants.
Cultivated in the Philippines within a natural ecosystem of sustainable mixed agriculture and forestry, the plant is self-sufficient, requiring no pesticides, fertiliser or extra water.
This project contributes to reforestation – while enhancing biodiversity and the economic prosperity of local farmers.
The Cradle to Cradle Certified® Bananatex® fabric has been developed further since its launch in 2018, resulting in new lightweight versions with a soft hand feel, such as the jersey, that open up new application possibilities, especially within apparel.
This project has been shortlisted in the material innovation category of Dezeen Awards 2023.
