Shortlisted for Dezeen Awards 2023 Bentley Lighthouse Award, Carmen Hijosa is the founder of British materials company Ananas Anam.

The company manufactures the textile innovations Piñatex and Piñayarn using Anam PALF, a textile-grade pineapple leaf fibre made from the waste of the pineapple harvest.

Ananas Anam is a Certified B Corporation who promotes social and ecological development through textile innovations by introducing new jobs in rural areas, while providing a second and diversified income stream to the pineapple farmers.

Piñatex has already been fashioned into commercially available products by the likes of Hugo Boss and Canadian brand Native Shoes. In 2023, Ananas Anam partnered with Cat Footwear for an eco-inspired collection of shoes designed to leave less footprint on the planet.

Carmen Hijosa has been shortlisted in the Bentley Lighthouse Award category of Dezeen Awards 2023.
