Light Bureau has created Espenes Rest Stop, in collaboration with Code Arkitektur, Norconsult and DIFK.
Espenes Rest Stop is part of the Norwegian Scenic Routes, a project connecting areas of natural beauty through design, art and architecture, attracting visitors to remote locations throughout Norway.
Positioned along the fjord, the architectural design is informed by its location – the water, the mountains and the wind conditions with the lighting inspired by the moonlight and flame.
The sculptural shape of the structure and the human interaction with the building is described through light, dark and contrast in colour temperature.
"Balanced against the dark surroundings, no more than 40 watts of power was required to illuminate the 50-metre-long roofline," said Light Bureau.
This project has been shortlisted in the architectural lighting design category of Dezeen Awards 2023.
