AIM Architecture has designed the new Harmay store in Chongqing, China.
A small red building sits on the edge of a popular square in Chongqing, contrasting with the high-rise environment and marking the entrance of a unique retail experience below.
The store is inspired by the secret factories in Chongqing's historic air-raid shelters – where giant conveyor belts, generators and a multitude of industrial apparatus contrast with the rough texture of the cave, creating a powerful spatial experience.
The belt with a huge array of goods, guides visitors and lets people experience the memory of the non-stop working underground factory, as well as reminding us of Harmay's industrial storage culture.
This project has been shortlisted in the retail interior (large) category of Dezeen Awards 2023.
