Taller Capital has transformed the Héroes de Tecamac Rambla in Los Heroes Tecamac, Mexico.
"A boulevard traversing the social housing complex Los Heroes Tecamac, serving 22,078 inhabitants directly and 45,755 indirectly, lacked non-motorised mobility alleys, public spaces and suffered from dust storms caused by uncontrolled earth dumped along the central, one meter elevated median," noted Taller Capital.
This 16-metre-wide space has been transformed into a vibrant two-kilometre Rambla, helping pedestrians move from their homes to the nearest public transportation stop.
The project integrates sports courts, skate facilities, callisthenics, public toilets, children's playgrounds, an open-air forum and a bikeway.
The new linear park also controls dust storms and infiltrates water through tezontle gravel – its main material.
This project has been shortlisted in the mixed-use project category of Dezeen Awards 2023.
