Amanda Levete Architects (AL_A) has developed Maggie's Southampton in Southampton, United Kingdom.

This project was built to support Southampton General Hospital's oncology unit, while creating a space that is uplifting, comforting, and changes the way people interact on-site.

When planning the work, AL_A imagined a garden, "a piece of the New Forest transported into a sea of car parks, a sanctuary from the hospital’s concrete landscape."

Four structural ceramic walls radiate from the centre of the site in a pinwheel plan, defining spaces with varying levels of privacy and character, creating a sense of fellowship and emphasising connections with the nature in which the centre is immersed.

In addition, there are panoramic views and natural light in all directions.

This project has been shortlisted in the health and wellbeing project category of Dezeen Awards 2023.
