Shortlisted for Dezeen Awards 2023 emerging architect of the year, London-based architecture and research organisation Material Cultures.

Material Cultures brings together design, research and strategic thinking to make meaningful progress towards a post-carbon built environment.

They design buildings that integrate emergent bio-regional and plant based construction technologies; they carry out systemic analysis into the conditions needed to scale up industry wide transition; and work to disseminate knowledge through film, exhibition curation, academic teaching and their skills programme MC MAKE.

Recent projects by Material Cultures include a multi species timber and hemp block-house in Somerset, an exhibition at the design museum exploring renewable materials, and the hempcrete demonstrator Flat House which was delivered under sister organisation Practice Architecture.

Material Cultures has been shortlisted in the emerging architect of the year category of Dezeen Awards 2023.
