Shortlisted for Dezeen Awards 2023 Bentley Lighthouse Award, Rodrigo Garcia Gonzalez and Pierre Paslier, founders of sustainable packaging start-up Notpla in London.

Notpla creates biodegradable packaging solutions made from seaweed and plants. Each product responds to a specific plastic problem across multiple industries, such as food, fashion, and cosmetics.

In 2019, the start-up supplied their first product, Oohos, at London Marathon, replacing single-use plastic cups and bottles with 36,000 edible bubbles filled with Lucozade. The company also partnered with Just Eat Takeaway to develop a range of cardboard, disposable food containers coated with seaweed. More recently, Notpla introduced its eponymous product, Notpla Paper, which can be used to package products such as hand soap and toothbrushes, as well as to create boxes or envelopes.

Rodrigo Garcia Gonzalez and Pierre Paslier are shortlisted in the Bentley Lighthouse Award category of Dezeen Awards 2023.
