William Samuels Architects has designed Studio House in Nelson, New Zealand.
The owners, who designed and built the compact 42-square-metre home, sought to prioritise comfort and functionality within a small footprint.
Embracing a modular and relocatable concept, the pinwheel-style plan offers spatial diversity and connects the interior with nature through frameless curved windows. Natural materials like Rimu timber create a warm and inviting atmosphere, both inside and out.
Addressing the housing affordability crisis, this sustainable and adaptable home sets an example for more accessible and sustainable future housing in New Zealand.
This project has been shortlisted in the rural house category of Dezeen Awards 2023.
