Shortlisted for Dezeen Awards 2023 emerging architect of the year, South African acrhitect Sumayya Vally.

Sumayya Vally is founder of Counterspace, an award-winning architecture and research practise. Vally's current projects are focused on expressions for African and Islamic hybrid identities and territories.

Projects by Sumayya Vally include a sculptural pedestrian bridge in Belgium and a pavilion at Notting Hill Carnival which references buildings of significance to the Afro-Caribbean community in London.

Sumayya Vally has been shortlisted in the emerging architect of the year category of Dezeen Awards 2023.
