Studio Asaï has designed and developed the Tembo Tembo Lodge in Hazyview, South Africa.
A few minutes from Paul Kruger Gate – the west side of the Kruger National Park – Tembo Tembo Lodge sits along the Sabie River.
The design of the house, developed in collaboration with a South African team was inspired by the termite nests and the natural dolmens of Kruger Park.
The building was erected in rammed earth, coming from the property ground to limit the natural impact.
Inside, the communal spaces are rough and open on the outside – well connected with nature. In contrast, the private spaces are more detailed, embodying a modern version of a safari camp.
This project has been shortlisted in the home interior category of Dezeen Awards 2023.
