Highly commended: Health and wellbeing project of the year 2023. Nord Architects has developed the Alzheimer's Village in Dax, France.
The Alzheimer’s Village is a home for people living with dementia, a research facility and an open community space.
It's a unique renewal of the care home typology and the very first of its kind in France, designed to create a sense of well-being for residents, relatives and healthcare professionals working there.
"There is currently no medical cure for dementia, but research indicates that elements in the physical environment can have a positive effect on symptoms," said Nord Architects.
The design was inspired by the local architectural style and tradition and is adapted to the site.
Judges comments: "This project is generous to both patients and healthcare workers, offering a new typology for dementia care."
This project has been highly commended in the health and wellbeing project category of Dezeen Awards 2023.
