Winner: Bentley Lighthouse Award 2023. Bonnie Hvillum is the founder of Copenhagen-based design and research practice Natural Material Studio.

Breaking new ground in material experimentation since 2018, Hvillum and her team continue to innovate and push boundaries when creating bespoke products using their own developed bio-materials.

Hvillum has led projects ranging from an exhibition featuring compostable biofoam seating and flexible textiles made from surplus bricks to a protein bioplastic gift wrap pouch for fashion brand Calvin Klein.

Previous and ongoing clients include Denmark's Designmuseum, architecture practice Snøhetta, lifestyle brand Adidas, restaurant Noma and interior design studio House of Grey, among others.

Judges comments: "This studio's work is uncompromising. The whole oeuvre is impressive and beautiful and demonstrates the path that our industry needs to take – which is towards bio-based research, creating greater material diversity whether by repurposing waste or growing new materials."
