Jomo Tariku

Jomo Tariku is an Ethiopian American artist, industrial designer, and co-founder of the collaborative Black Artists + Designers Guild (BADG).

Since moving from Nairobi, Kenya to pursue his undergraduate degree in the United States, Tariku's unique designs have gained international recognition. Focused on furniture design, he draws inspiration from Africa's diverse indigenous cultures, architecture, and colours.

As a co-founder of the BADG, Tariku advocates for Black designers globally. His work has been shown in prestigious locations, including the film set of Marvel's Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, and is part of the permanent collections at museums such as the Met, PMA, and LACMA.

Designer Tariku is also the co-founder of non-profit weASPiRE and has recently founded educational organisation ARTiculate Design Lab.

Over the years he has mentored many up-and-coming designers from Africa as well as the US. Jomo is represented by Wexler Gallery in the US and Foreign Agent Gallery in Switzerland.
