Slag, a complex secondary product of the metal industry, is typically used in linear construction applications.

About Slag presents objects that illustrate alternative and circular uses of slag by integrating the material into various artisanal and industrial contexts through the use of slag-based glass.

This process transforms the material into a craftable and circular state and substitutes essential glass chemicals, saving valuable resources and energy in the manufacturing process.

The results show that About Slag as a glass component is a sustainable alternative and that reservations about residual materials must be re-evaluated, considering limited planetary resources.

This project has been longlisted in the material innovation category of Dezeen Awards 2024.
