Studio Ganszyniec has designed Akunok for Abstracta, an acoustic sofa.
The Akunok family addresses both the functional needs of a modern office, as well as its acoustic challenges.
"With Abstracta, we aimed not to create yet another sofa but the best-performing acoustic furniture, reducing noise for both the [furniture's user] and the space around it," said Studio Ganszyniec.
The fragmented shape of Akunok, with planes that never align, various heights and many corners, creates a complex obstacle in space that effectively breaks the incoming sound waves.
When arranging Akunok elements in space, its tall, soft walls double – while the negative space between them works as a sound trap.
This project has been longlisted in the workplace design category of Dezeen Awards 2024.
