Patricia Urquiola has designed the Alder Collection for Mater , a series of biodegradable plastic and coffee waste tables and stools.

Mater’s Alder collection can be used indoors and outdoors and was created in collaboration with renowned Spanish architect and designer Patricia Urquiola.

Two versions of Alder have been developed: one using a blend of coffee waste and biodegradable plastic and the other utilising various wood fibres and biodegradable plastic.

The Alder collection consists of two lounge tables in oval and square shapes, a side table and a stool.

The pieces push the boundaries of sensibility and texture in furniture design, showcasing a distinct tactility achieved through a unique Matek® formulation that makes the material more flexible, clay-like and organic.

This project has been longlisted in the sustainable design (consumer) category of Dezeen Awards 2024.
