Chat Architects has designed the Angsila Oyster Scaffolding Pavilion near Bangkok, Thailand.

The Angsila Oyster Scaffolding Pavilion aims to raise awareness and appreciation of the historic but little-known coastal fishing industry in the village of Angsila.

"The pavilion design draws on and bastardises the traditional and widely deployed bamboo scaffolding used for oyster cultivation," said Chat Architects.

In use, local fishermen bring small groups of visitors from Angsila to the pavilion, where they can select their own oysters and mussels, which are then prepared fresh for them to eat at a sea-to-table dining experience in a remarkable coastal setting.

When not utilised for visitors, the oyster scaffolding serves as a recreational fishing platform for locals.

This project has been longlisted in the sustainable building category of Dezeen Awards 2024.
