W.RE has designed the renovation of an old Debenhams building into Arding & Hobbs in London, United Kingdom.
Arding & Hobbs showcases the revitalisation of a historic Grade II listed department store, preserving its heritage.
Originally constructed in 1910, the building had served as a focal point for the neighbourhood until falling into disrepair with the liquidation of Debenhams.
In 2023, the building was restored, expanded and transformed into a characterful workspace for approximately 1,000 people.
Preserved historic details, such as a stained-glass dome and a barrel roof, are carefully balanced with modern features.
In addition, new retail and food and beverage offers helped to transform the area into a 24/7 destination.
This project has been longlisted in the heritage project category of Dezeen Awards 2024.
