Ignacio G. Galán and OF Architects have collaborated on the Beyond-the-family Kin project in Madrid, Spain.

Beyond-the-family Kin is a home designed to empower older residents that operates within a network of infrastructures shaping a renewed social movement for ageing in place.

Countering the isolation of older residents – or their subjection to institutionalised forms of residence – this project hosts diverse forms of care across generations beyond the nuclear family.

"The distribution of spaces makes possible diverse forms of coexistence essential to these forms of care while furnishing financial strategies supporting the life of its occupants," said Ignacio G. Galán.

This project has been longlisted in the house (urban) category of Dezeen Awards 2024.
