John Tree has designed the Billet Chair for Hydro.

Designed for Hydro to showcase their new R100 recycled Aluminum, the Billet chair uses two custom aluminium extrusions that are machined, bent and clipped together to form a complete chair in a single material with no fixings or adhesives.

The structure required a partially separated profile to form the legs and back support, which are bent in different directions but remain connected as the unseparated profile below the seat.

This partial separation allowed a complex structural part to be formed as a single part free from fixings and other points of possible failure.

This project has been longlisted in the seating design category of Dezeen Awards 2024.
