StoneCycling/Front Materials has developed BioBasedTiles® for Biomason.

StoneCycling's partner, Biomason, learned how nature grows through one of its most robust and enduring structures: coral.

"Taking inspiration from marine ecosystems, we're on a path to greatly minimise carbon emissions in the production of building materials," said StoneCycling.

With the help of bacteria, BioBasedTiles grow in less than three days.

As a result, the tiles are 20% lighter than a concrete block, three times stronger and do not require kiln firing.

This project has been longlisted in the material innovation category of Dezeen Awards 2024.
