Vurpas Architectes has transformed an old market hall into the Eugénie Brazier School in Lyon, France.
The new Eugénie Brazier School has been built in a former wholesale market hall in the heart of Lyon's Confluence, where the hall is used in ways that contradict its original design.
Echoing its past uses, the school now bears the name of a famous mère lyonnaise, Eugénie Brazier.
A logical continuity has emerged in this heritage; it's a place where the hustle and bustle of stalls and goods trucks have been replaced with the voices of young children who will now evolve in a learning environment at their own pace.
This project has been longlisted in the education project category of Dezeen Awards 2024.
