Swallow and Tea has designed GBO, a collection of handwoven rugs made predominantly of jute fibres.
The collection is inspired by geographical lines and regional landmarks in Igbo land, Eastern Nigeria, featuring a variety of local hues.
The project reintroduces jute as a sustainable and expertly crafted material for deluxe-grade rugs.
'GBO' was a term of endearment for the designer's late grandfather, who had a keen interest in geography. Therefore, the term is used as a heartfelt tribute, lending a sense of legacy and lineage.
GBO also presents a poignant play on the word 'Igbo', the region that forms the collection's central theme.
This project has been longlisted in the textile design category of Dezeen Awards 2024.
