Ateliers Takahito Sekiguchi has redesigned the interiors of the Hair Room Toaru in Saitama, Japan.

This project is a hair salon located on a roadside in a rural area famous for its wood resources. Due to land readjustment, the area needed to be rebuilt.

Ateliers Takahito Sekiguchi, against the standardisation of the city landscape, created walls and roofs consisting of small active elements (mirrors and wooden counters) in the cutting space of a hair salon.

On top of that, the scenery of the past and present, greenery, construction methods using woods, and things were overlaped in multiple layers through the reflection of mirrors.

"We created...natural architecture, regardless of design or use that visualises the charm of [the] city and hair salon," said Ateliers Takahito Sekiguchi.

This project has been longlisted in the health and well-being interior category of Dezeen Awards 2024.
