Proctor & Shaw has designed Highgate House in London, United Kingdom.

Onerous planning considerations, neighbouring windows, flying freeholds and existing underground service constraints required careful navigation in this project.

This cradle of complex constraints has produced an innovative, captivating architecture that the owner's family of four can enjoy at Highgate House.

Tasked with extending above and below ground, development potential has been maximised with simple volumes, crisply articulated with natural light, craft and bold materials.

New basement spaces are bathed in diffuse natural light from sandblasted pavement light construction while an innovative split stair design resolves a troublesome underground service constraint – all cohesively woven together with a bold material palette.

This project has been longlisted in the house renovation category of Dezeen Awards 2024.
