Manuel Cervantes Estudio has redesigned a series of homes for the Kontigo Project in Mexico.
On October 25 2023, Hurricane Otis struck the coast of Guerrero in Mexico, marking one of the most devastating tropical cyclones in Pacific history.
This natural disaster exacerbated the vulnerability of the population, especially low-income communities, accentuating the already existing problems of marginalisation and poverty.
Given this reality, the need arose to strengthen and improve the quality of life of those affected – as well as to rethink the infrastructure of the most vulnerable areas to regenerate the threads of community and dignify homes.
For this purpose, the Kontigo Project took an architectural approach adapted to the region's particularities. The design, shaped by the place's essence, responds directly to the climate – characterised by high temperatures and a consistent flow of air currents.
This project has been longlisted in the house (rural) category of Dezeen Awards 2024.
