Atelier Chen Hung has designed Mapleton House in Brisbane, Australia.
Set on Blackall Range's ridge line, Mapleton House is an intuitive response to the suburban-rural fringe condition.
Strategically receded twin buildings establish visual connections to the prominent natural features of Mt. Ninderry and Mt. Coolum, offering locals views from the street and the adjacent public stairs.
The house's envelope – intentionally angled to align with sight lines towards the mountains – coupled with stepped platforms, choreographs a dynamic spatial experience.
The rugged monolithic structures emerge organically, cultivating a dialogue between the geological formations and the landscape's cultural and historical significance.
This project has been longlisted in the house (rural) category of Dezeen Awards 2024.
