Hassell has renovated and redesigned the Michael Kirby Building for Macquarie University in Macquarie Park, Australia.
The Michael Kirby Building at Macquarie University tells a story of adaptation and growth, crafting spaces that encourage interaction and champion ideas.
By utilising the concrete framework of a 1980s-era administration building as the foundation for a unique new timber structural system, this revitalised corner site is repositioned as a new focus for the campus.
Our design aims to democratise the built-form experience, granting unrestricted access to key spaces throughout the interior.
This vision is embedded in all aspects of the building, including a top-lit atrium space that visually connects to the established tree canopy outside.
This project has been longlisted in the education project category of Dezeen Awards 2024.
