LOM Architecture and Design has designed a new Microsoft office, Barn X, in Atherstone, United Kingdom.

LOM has designed a highly sustainable new office building for Microsoft Rare Games, which is located on its rural campus in Leicestershire.

The building is a contemporary timber-framed barn with an emphasis on biophilia and collaboration.

The design references the context and the wider campus, with materials informed by the surrounding landscape.

The building is fully carbon neutral with LEED Gold certification and numerous sustainable features, including photovoltaics, a rainwater harvesting system, solar shading and sustainably sourced, recyclable materials and furniture.

"Barn X has achieved one of the highest-performing office EPC scores in the country for office buildings," said LOM.

This project has been longlisted in the workplace project category of Dezeen Awards 2024.
