Arnout Meijer Studio has designed a new lighting facade, Minor Moon, for an elementary school.
Minor Moon is an architectural lighting facade in a new elementary school in Amsterdam that functions both as a beacon of light in the dim neighbourhood and as an educational tool.
The project is produced with a minimum of new raw materials; a pattern that can be highlighted from the edge is engraved in an existing four-metre-diameter window.
At daytime, the window is transparent, but when the sun sets, the surface is completely illuminated.
The light is synchronised with the path and intensity of the sun throughout the year.
This project has been longlisted in the architectural lighting design category of Dezeen Awards 2024.
