CBAG Studio has conceptualised and developed Monolith, a new power plant exterior, in Saarbrücken, Germany.
This project's facade complements the new building as a solar power plant, thus becoming part of future sustainable energy generation itself.
The existing Römerbrücke thermal power plant, which was awarded a prize by the UN, was groundbreaking due to its efficiency and represents a rethinking of our energy production.
Today, it is replaced by a new H2-ready gas engine power plant, where the exterior design focuses on the south side, visible from afar.
Monolith's design takes up the abstract motif of the energy-dependent house, which will, however, be self-sufficient in terms of energy in the future.
This project has been longlisted in the infrastructure and transport project category of Dezeen Awards 2024.
