ZJA has developed the N206 Tjalmaweg road in Leiden, Netherlands.
The N206 Tjalmaweg connects the city of Leiden, the birthplace of the Dutch painter Rembrandt, with the beaches of Katwijk aan Zee.
Designed as a green connection, the road pays tribute to the region's Roman Empire history while emphasising sustainability.
The design accentuates the circularity of materials and seamless integration into the landscape, offering a green experience for road users and cyclists.
The Tjalmaweg is part of the RijnlandRoute project, improving accessibility and livability, particularly around Leiden.
This project has been longlisted in the infrastructure and transport project category of Dezeen Awards 2024.
