Kokuyo has designed the interiors of O-I Studio in Tokyo, Japan.

A studio was established in Oimachi, Tokyo, where the Mitsubishi Pencil headquarters is located, to serve as a point of contact between local residents, creators and employees.

Approximately 9,300 pencils are used for display tables and bookshelves, where the key elements include the large paper-like arc of the ceiling and the shiny brown colour used for the Mitsubishi pencils' surface finish.

The soft scent of wood wafts through the studio, evoking nostalgic memories of the creative experience.

"Visitors can encounter and experience expression through stationery, art and books," said Kokuyo.

This project has been longlisted in the retail interior (small) category of Dezeen Awards 2024.
